ASHLAND, Va. - The Virginia Sports Information Directors announced the 2017-18 Academic All-State team this week, and six Marymount student-athletes earned a spot.
Each school can place just six on the team with the criteria of a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average for the year along with being a sophomore or higher.
This year's team had six different sports represented for the Saints: senior cross country runner Brooke Saunders, sophomore volleyball player Theresa Buscemi, senior golfer Alexis Miller, junior lacrosse player Holly Reik, sophomore basketball player Ryan Albert, and junior baseball player Michael Wade.
Saunders, who just graduated with a dgree in biology, capped her senior year off with a 4.0 GPA. Buscemi wrapped up her second year toward a mathematics degree with a 4.0 GPA as well. Miller finished her degree in business with a senior year GPA of 3.975, while Reik, Albert and Wade each posted a 3.97 for the past year. Reik is working toward a degree in criminal justice, Albert in business, and Wade in health science.
Four of the six will return for another year with the Saints, while Saunders and Miller concluded their careers at the end of the 2017-18 academic year.
