ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University Athletics Department would like to recognize the generosity of Jim and Barbara Wendell and the Wendell Family for their contribution towards the Marymount men's lacrosse locker room and overall Athletics Department renovations.
The Wendell Family has expanded its long-standing commitment and relationship with Marymount University through a generous locker room naming gift. In recognition of the generous contribution of Jim and Barbara Wendell, the men's lacrosse locker room will be known as The Wendell Family Locker Room.
"The Wendell family has been loyal supporters and close friends of the lacrosse program for many years," Marymount Director of Athletics Jamie Reynolds said. "We are thrilled that they continue to invest in our student-athletes and the future of Marymount Athletics."
The Wendell's relationship with Marymount began when their oldest son, Jimmy, was recruited to the men's lacrosse program by Head Coach Jon Reynolds in 2009. Jimmy was a four-year starter for the Saints from 2012-15.
The Saints were more recently joined by Jim and Barbara's younger son, Matthew, who is part of the men's lacrosse class of 2021.
"Barbara and I fell in love with Marymount during our first couple visits with our older son, Jimmy. We found an incredibly welcoming environment when we became a part of the Marymount men's lacrosse family," Jim said. "The great times we had with both the wins and losses throughout the years, and the close relationship we developed with both Jon and Jamie Reynolds made for a very easy decision for our younger son, when it came time for him to choose where he was going to continue his education."
Jim and Barbara currently live in East Brunswick, N.J., Jim's hometown. Jim is the Vice President of Development and Construction Management at Waypoint Residential, a national, multi-family development company. Barbara is a middle school science teacher at St. Mathias School in Franklin Township, N.J.
The couple is also extremely involved in its community. Both are involved in youth and high school sports, as Jim is currently the President of the St. Bart's Buffalos Youth Football Organization and is a sitting councilman for East Brunswick; he has held his spot for the past eight years and was just re-elected to his third term. Jim was also previously the president of the Blackhawks Youth Lacrosse program.
"Jon and Jamie have made Marymount men's lacrosse a family, and for this reason, it did not take long for Barbara and I to decide that we could put aside some vacations, in an effort to help this team that has done and still is doing so much for our family," Jim said. "We are so very proud to be a part of the Marymount family. Along with enjoying the games and helping to feed the men after each game, this was the next logical step."
The renovations to the Marymount athletic facilities shows a commitment to the current and future student-athletes by the university, and during Homecoming and Family Weekend on Saturday, October 13, the locker room naming was celebrated with a presentation during halftime of the men's lacrosse alumni game.
"Our donors are playing a critical role in elevating our status as a destination for recruits and enhancing the overall experience for our student-athletes," Jamie Reynolds added. "The Wendell family, along with our other committed donors are quite simply, taking us to another level."
