LANCASTER, Pa. – The Atlantic East Conference announced its first-ever Preseason Baseball Poll on Thursday, and the Marymount University baseball team was voted No. 5 in the poll, while receiving one first-place vote.
The Saints received 20 points in the poll, as they look forward to a new slate of competition in their first season in the Atlantic East. Only two points separated Marymount from No. 3 Cabrini University (22 points) and No. 4 Wesley College (21 points) in the voting.
Marymount returns a solid core of players from last season, including three tabbed as 2019 Players to Watch by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, beginning with senior Conner Hall. Last season, Hall led the team with a .353 batting average, 49 hits, 18 doubles, and 30 RBI.
Senior Luke Tyree will patrol the outfield again this year for the Saints, as he finished with the third-highest average last season, at .288. He also led the team with six homeruns and finished second with 29 RBI.
Sophomore Ryan Bergenhagen was selected by the publication from the Saints' pitching staff, as his 12 appearances on the mound in 2018 tied for third on the team. He boasted a 3.63 earned-run average in 34 2/3 innings pitched, with a 3-0 record.
The Saints will open their season on Sunday, February 17 in doubleheader action against Widener University at Nationals Youth Academy; the first game is set for 12:30 p.m.
