LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Austin Sizemore and sophomore Drew Mead, of the Marymount University baseball team, swept the Atlantic East Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, the league announced on Monday.
The awards mark the first for both Saints in their careers, while it is the first-ever Atlantic East Pitcher of the Week for the baseball program.
Sizemore had a blistering week at the plate, as the Saints won all four of their games, to earn the conference Player of the Week award. He led the way with a .667 batting average (10-for-15) with three doubles and one triple.
He drove in 11 RBI on the week, while scoring four runs and walking three times.
In the team's first Atlantic East games of the year, he led the team to a doubleheader sweep of Wesley College on Saturday. He tallied four RBI in each game of the twin bill, while smacking three doubles and going 5-for-8 at the plate.
Mead, the Atlantic East Pitcher of the Week, led the Saints to a 2-0 win over Mount St. Joseph University, pitching the first complete-game shut out of his career. In nine innings for work, Mead allowed only five hits. He struck out five batters and did not give up a walk to earn his first win of the season.
The Saints are back on the diamond on Wednesday, March 20, traveling to former Capital Athletic Conference-foe University of Mary Washington; the first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
