NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Marymount University baseball team had a pair of seniors named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors College Division All-State Baseball Team, with Luke Tyree on the first team and Austin Sizemore on the second team.
Tyree is making his first appearance on the All-State team, following his best season with the Saints. He led the team in batting average (.377), slugging percentage (.604), hits (60), runs (35), triples (6), home runs (5), and stolen bases (18), while finishing in the top 10 in the Atlantic East in all categories, including leading the league in triples and ranking second in stolen bases.
He also finished the year with 27 RBI and a .440 on-base percentage, good for second on the team; his nine doubles ranked fourth on the team.
In the field, Tyree patrolled center field for the Saints, coming away with a perfect fielding percentage (1.000), with 82 put outs and six assists in 88 chances.
Sizemore also earned his first selection to the VaSID All-State teams. He had a breakout year for the Saints, seeing time at both first base and third base to earn the utility spot on the second team. He ranked fifth in the league with 12 doubles and eighth with 37 RBI; his RBI total led the Saints, while he finished second in doubles.
He added a .303 batting average, tying for fourth on the team, finishing the year with 37 hits, 21 runs scored, two home runs, and one triple. In the field, he notched a .944 fielding percentage, making 107 put outs and 60 assists.
Both Tyree and Sizemore were named to the first-team All-Atlantic East Conference team, as well, while Tyree was named an American Baseball Coaches' Association/Rawlings Division III All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team member.
