Oglesby named men's golf Head Coach

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University Director of Athletics, Jamie Reynolds, has announced the hiring of Sam Oglesby as the men's golf Head Coach.

Oglesby joins the Saints, following a stint at the University of Mary Washington, which included leading the Eagles to the Capital Athletic Conference championship in the 2018 season. 

"Sam brings a wealth of teaching and coaching experience to our men's golf program, and we're excited to welcome him into the Marymount Saints community," Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations and Men's Golf Sport Adminstrator, Stacy Natoli said. "His prior accomplishments coupled with his passion for excellence make him an ideal fit to lead and build a successful program."

He coached the Eagles to a victory by 24 strokes in the CAC championship, earning the team a trip to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship and finishing 24th in the country. Oglesby was named the CAC Coach of the Year in 2018, while coaching the conferences' Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

He was also named the Golf Coaches' Association of America Golf Pride Grips Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2018.

Oglesby brings the Saints over 20 years of golf instruction experience, while also serving over 27 years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Marine Corps golf team from 1986-2002, while coaching the team from 1999-2002.

"It is an honor for me to come to Marymount University as the Head Men's Golf Coach," said Oglesby. "I am excited to continue to build on the men's team's legacy and look forward to building a very competitive program here at Marymount."

He is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Instructor, a United States Golf Teachers' Federation Certified Coach, and a United States Golf Teachers Federation Certified Instructor (Level III), as well as a member of the PGA of America Apprentice program and holds a United States Golf Association Rules Certification.

As a player, Oglesby won three events on the Golf Channel Amateur Tour in Northern Virginia, while earning medalist honors on the Golf Channel Tour in his National Age Flight in 2012.

Oglesby is a 1999 graduate of Mary Washington and earned his Master's Degree from National University in San Diego, Calif. He currently resides in Alexandria, Va.
