Men's soccer set to take on Muhlenberg in ECAC first round

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's soccer team will continue its season in the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday in a first-round contest against Muhlenberg College; the opening kick is set for 11 a.m.

How we got here:

Marymount posted a 10-9-1 record this season, setting the all-time program mark for wins in a season, while advancing to the Atlantic East Conference semifinals against Immaculata University, to earn an ECAC berth. The team advanced to a conference semifinal game for the first time since the 2003 season, after a, 2-1, Atlantic East tournament first-round win over Gwynedd Mercy University at Long Bridge Park.

How they got here:

Muhleberg finished the regular season with a 9-6-2 record to earn a spot in the ECAC tournament. The Mules ended the year with a 2-1 victory against Washington (Md.) College in Centennial Conference action.

Record-setting season:

The men's soccer team set the all-time program record with its 10th win of the season coming against Gwynedd Mercy in the Atlantic East tournament. The previous record of nine wins was set in the 1999 and 1996 seasons. The Saints have come on strong late in the season, with five wins in their last seven games to break the record.

Making a debut:

Saturday's game will mark the first ECAC tournament appearance for the Saints. To date, the furthest Marymount has made it into the postseason is to a conference tournament semifinal game.

Atlantic East superlatives:

In his first season at the helm, Head Coach Nate Kalin, and his staff, was awarded the Atlantic East Coaching Staff of the Year, in the team's record-setting season. The Saints also had senior Rodney Ngoh and junior Ridwaan Robinson named to the All-Atlantic East first team, while freshman Carlos Varona was named to the all-conference second team.

What's next?

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the ECAC second round against the winner of another first-round contest between New York University and Hood College. The second round game is set for Sunday, November 17 at 12 p.m.
