LEXINGTON, Ky. – After not dropping a single set last week with straight-set victories over former conference foe Stevenson University and then-No. 3 SUNY New Paltz, the Marymount men's volleyball team moved up three spots to No. 11 in the latest AVCA ranking.
Opening the preseason ranking at No. 14, a 5-2 start over the first three weeks of competition boosted the Saints up the poll.
Headlining the five victories is its most recent over then-No. 3 Hawks, collecting a 3-0 sweep at home in a trimatch with the Mustangs, making it the highest ranked opponent in program history the Saints have beaten. It tops their previous highest victory of No. 4 Rutgers-Newark back in 2016, a match they won in five sets.
Furthermore, Stevenson was a 2016 national semifinalist and SUNY New Paltz was the national championship runner-up last season.
Also representing the CVC in this week's poll is Juniata, who held at No. 6, and Kean, who jumped four spots to No. 7.
Marymount will take the road for The Clash at Kean this weekend in Union, New Jersey where it will face Medaille, Lasell, and No. 2 Stevens. First match against Medaille is set for Friday night at 7:30 p.m., with Lasell and Stevens take place on Saturday.
