ARLINGTON, Va. - For the second consecutive week, the Marymount men's volleyball team found itself ranked at No. 5 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Coaches Poll, holding on to the team's highest-ever ranking.
The top five teams remained unchanged with Springfield at No. 1, receiving 20 first-place votes and Stevens coming in at No. 2 with two first-place votes. Carthage is at No. 3 followed by UC Santa Cruz and Marymount.
The Saints have played or will play three of the top four ranked teams this season. They fell in four sets to both No. 2 Stevens on January 27 and then-No. 9 Carthage on January 12. Marymount will face UC Santa Cruz this Saturday at 1 p.m., at Eastern Mennonite immediately following a match-up with its CVC rival at 11 a.m. The Royals are currently receiving 12 votes in this week's poll and are one of four teams from the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) who are ranked.
In addition to Marymount and Eastern Mennonite, Kean is at No. 8 and Juniata is at No. 10.
The Saints open this weekend's three-match road trip on Friday night at CVC newcomer Southern Virginia at 7 p.m.
