ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount men's volleyball sophomore Sam Safley was named Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Player of the Week on Monday, earning his first career honor. He is the second Saint to receive the honor this season joining senior TJ Wiechecki who was honored on February 5.
Safley led Marymount to a pair of conference wins last week, securing the top seed in the West Division for the 2019 CVC Championship. For the week, he posted a .519 hitting percentage with 34 kills and just six errors on 54 swings. He averaged 5.7 kills and 6.7 points per set.
In a sweep of Ramapo, he totaled 18 kills while adding seven digs and two block assists. He followed that with 16 kills, hitting .560, in a sweep of Rutgers-Newark while adding three service aces.
The Saints, who have won a season-high five-straight matches, wrap-up the regular season on Friday when they host a nonconference contest with Arcadia on senior night inside Verizon Sports Arena at 5 p.m.
