UNION, N.J. - The Marymount University men's volleyball team had a rematch of the 2018 CVC Championship match on Friday night, traveling to New Jersey for a tilt against No. 5 Kean University, dropping a 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-19) decision.
Opening the match with a service ace by senior Remington Shahan, the Saints battled through the first set to take a late lead at 23-21 following a kill by junior Sam Safley. However, two timeouts by the Cougars helped them rally for four-straight points to steal the first game, 25-23.
The momentum swing remained in Kean's favor through set two, working its way to a 25-15 second game to take a two-set lead in the match.
The third game had the Saints in a hole early, giving up the first five points, but they continued their drive throughout the set to get within three most of the way. Unfortunately, a late stretch by the Cougars sealed up the win, 25-19, to take the match.
Marymount gets right back into it on Saturday, traveling to Rutgers-Newark for a trimatch. The Saints take on the host at 11 a.m., and follow with Hunter at 1 p.m.
