ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's volleyball program has announced the addition of Sergio Figueroa Velez as a Graduate Assistant Coach ahead of the 2020 season.
Figueroa Velez comes from Springfield College, where he played for two NCAA Division III National Championship men's volleyball teams in 2017 and 2018. He was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III National Player of the Year in 2018, as well.
He also took part in the Puerto Rican Professional League All-Star Game in 2018.
"Sergio is a huge addition to our staff and men's volleyball program," Head Coach Dan Liberto said. "His intercollegiate career, time in his native professional league, and international experience will greatly enhance our profile. We're fortunate to have him, and I know he's eager to get to work."
Along with his playing experience, Figueroa Velez was the Head Coach for the Husky Volleyball Club this past year, after being a Clinics Instructor for the club in 2018.
Over the summer, he also served as a Clinics Instructor for Pur Beach Volleyball in Ocean Park, Puerto Rico.
Figueroa Velez earned his Bachelor's Degree in Science Movement and Sports Studies from Springfield in May, before joining Marymount this summer.
