JERMYN, Pa. – The Marymount University men's cross country team battled harsh conditions of rain, wind, and a muddy track on Saturday in the first-ever Atlantic East Conference Championship at Lakeland High School, placing third with 83 points in the event, hosted by Marywood University.
The Saints ran well as a pack, with their top-four finishers all placing within six spots of each other.
Sophomore Chase Goodwin led the way in 12th with a time of 32:24.90. Just behind him were freshmen Brandon Dakessian and Brendan O'Brien in 13th and 14th with times of 32:56.10 and 33:07.60, respectively. Dakessian finished the race with his best time of the season.
Goodwin, Dakessian, and O'Brien all earned second-team All-Atlantic East honors for their finishes in the race.
Freshman Matthew Thies crossed the finish in 34:26.30, which was good for 17th to round out the Saints' initial group.
The Marymount scoring was rounded out by sophomore Paolo Rivas in 27th (36:32.80).
Sophomore Nicholas Stadtmueller also set a season-best time on the day, finishing the race in 44:08.60.
The Saints will next be in action in the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regionals on Saturday, November 10. The team will be returning to DeSales University for the competition, previously running in the DeSales Invitational on October 6.
