DANBURY, Conn. – Marymount University women's basketball freshman Katie McShea was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Month for December, the league announced on Thursday.
McShea has started off her career as a Saint in impressive fashion, currently ranking second on the team with 14.7 points per game and leading the team with 8.8 rebounds per game.
She posted a strong month of December, averaging 15.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game, while notching three double-doubles, and only coming up one rebound short of a fourth.
McShea posted three 20-point scoring efforts, including a career-high 29 points on December 5 at Stevenson University. Her best game came in a 22-point, 17-rebound contest at Elizabethtown University on December 17.
On December 21, she earned her first Atlantic East Conference award, being named the Defensive Player of the Week.
She helped the Saints post a 4-2 record in December, including their first-ever Atlantic East victory at Neumann University on December 1.
McShea and the Saints will be back in action in Atlantic East play on Saturday, January 12, hosting Marywood University at the Converse Family Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
