DATAW ISLAND, S.C. – For the second time this year and the third time in her career, junior Alessandra Bertacche has won a tournament championship, being crowned the TaylorMade Intercollegiate champion on Tuesday afternoon after carding a two-day score of 161 (+17).
Playing the par-72 Morgan River course at Dataw Island, Bertacche totaled 17 pars and a birdie through her two rounds to maintain a lead throughout the tournament. After day one, she sat atop the board of 39 golfers with a round of 78 (+6). She followed it up on Tuesday with an 83 (+11) to win the tournament by five strokes on Division II competitor Bailey Krueger from Ohio Dominican.
This is the second tournament Bertacche has won this year, winning the Red Devil All-American Classic back in October. In program history, there have only been three individual tournament champions, all three of which belong to Bertacche.
Earning a spot on the All-Tournament team was senior Alexis Miller, tying for third place with Ohio Wesleyan's Alexis Reichardt with a total score of 168 (+24). Miller led the Saints for the weekend with four birdies, three of which she posted in her first round on Monday. She carded scores of 81 and 87 for the tournament.
Junior Brandie Hartzell tied for 19th with a two-day score of 191 (+47), notching a 96 in day one, and shaving a stroke off in day two for a 95.
Senior Courtney VanWie rounded out the Saint squad for the tournament with a 33rd finish.
As a team, Marymount took third place out of the seven qualified squads after finishing the tournament with a 737 (+161). Division II Ohio Dominican grabbed the top finish with a 673 (+97), while York College of Pennsylvania edged the Saints in the late part of the second round for the 736 (+160) finish.
The Saints have now opened their spring slate of the schedule, continuing it on March 25-26 for the two-day Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Dominion Club in Glen Allen, Virginia.
