Bertacche, Women's Golf Take Second At McDaniel Fall Invitational

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - The Marymount women's golf team took its first swings of the 2018 Fall schedule on Saturday, coming up just short of opening the season with a team victory at the McDaniel Fall Invitational, taking second place out of seven teams with a total score of 351 (+63).

Stevenson University were crowned the champions of the tournament with a card of 343 (+55), while the Mustangs' Laura Rentz edged Marymount senior Alessandra Bertacche by two strokes for the individual title. Bertacche finished her first round of the season with an 82 (+10) to take second. 

A pair of freshmen for the Saints opened up their collegiate careers with top-10 finishes, as Denise Isabel Trojillo came in two strokes behind Bertacche with an 84 (+12) to tie for fourth place with two other competitors. After carding a 90 (+18), freshman Victoria Zarkadas sat alone in 10th. 

Senior Brandie Hartzell tied for 16th for the tournament, closing out her 18 with a 95 (+23). Rounding out the squad was freshman Gina Carvelli (117). 

The Saints return to action on Saturday, September 22, traveling to Harrisonburg, Virginia for the two-day Bridgewater Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course.
