LANCASTER, Pa. – The Marymount University women's golf team will be heading into the first-ever Atlantic East Conference championship on Tuesday, April 23 at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pennsylvania.
The Saints enter the championship tied with Marywood University as the favorites in the tournament. In the Atlantic East Pre-Championship Poll, voted on by the conference coaches, the Saints and Pacers both garnered two first-place votes and 11 points
Marymount has made a strong push into the conference championship, winning two of its last-four events. The team has finished third or higher in all four.
Senior Alessandra Bertacche leads the Saints into the competition with a season average of 81.2, ranking in the top 100 in the country, with a low round of 77. Earlier this season, she placed first overall in the Atlantic East Fall Invitational and has finished in the top five in seven events this season.
Senior Brandie Hartzell and freshman Denise Isabel Trojillo are also strong contenders for the Saints, holding season averaged of 85.5 and 85.8, respectively. Trojillo has finished in the top five four times in her first season in blue and white, including an individual win at the Catholic Invitational.
Cabrini University (eight points) and Neumann University (six points) rounded out the voting in the poll.
