ASHLAND, Va. - For the first time in program history, the Marymount University women's golf team earned a pair of VaSID College Women's Golf All-State honorees, as senior Alessandra Bertacche and freshman Denise Isabel Trojillo were named to second team.
Seeing just 10 women's golfers across the state of Virginia make the All-State teams, Marymount was just one of three total schools to earn multiple spots on the team; Christopher Newport and Washington and Lee were the other two.
Bertacche wrapped up a stellar career in 2019, winning a program-record five tournaments throughout her time as a Saint including one this past year. This season, she took third place in both the Atlantic East Conference championship and the Centennial Conference championship, earning first-time all-league in both. She was also named the Centennial Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year.
She concludes her four-year career with an 81.5 average through 54.5 rounds.
Trojillo shot onto the collegiate scene quickly for the Saints, having a great first season with an average 85.8 through 16 rounds. She won the two tournaments this season, winning the Catholic Invitational and following up with the Atlantic East championship. As the tournament championship for the Atlantic East, she was deemed the Player and Rookie of the Year, before placing ninth in the Centennial championship to be named Rookie of the Year in that league as well.
