GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Marymount women's soccer team traveled down to North Carolina on Wednesday evening for a non-conference tilt against an undefeated Greensboro College squad, falling 2-0.
The work came early for junior goalkeeper Sydney Sherman, collecting four saves in the first 12 minutes, while sophomore Gretel Bonilla got the Saint offense rolling with a shot of their own in the ninth minute.
Unfortunately, the first shot to get in the back of the net was in favor of the Pride in the 14th minute.
The Saints battled through much of the game, looking for the equalizer, including another shot on target by Bonilla and two by sophomore Gabby Cabrales, but nothing made it past the Greensboro keeper.
Sherman continued to hold strong in the net for MU, but the Pride sealed up the match in the 89th minute with their second finish to take the 2-0 decision.
Sherman finished the game with 11 saves through 90 minutes of play.
The women remain on the road this weekend for their next match, opening up Capital Athletic Conference play at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, September 23. First touch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
