ARLINGTON, Va. - As the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team traveled north, the Marymount University Saints looked to hold the Knights on their home turf. Two early goals for the Knights put the Saints down early, but aggression built for the Saints putting them on the board for a final score of 5-1.
McCall Jensen was first on the board for the Knights followed by Alli Rigby within the first 10 minutes of play. The Saints picked up the pressure in the first half following the 2-0 deficit, holding the Knights to just the two early goals. The Saints looked for their own chances to put one in the back of the net but the Knights defense held strong.
After the 2-0 halftime break, the Saints kept the pressure up on the Knights' defense but couldn't find the back of the net. As the Saints continued their play on the offensive side of the field, junior Karen Reyes received a cross from freshman Taylor Memon in transition. Reyes fired the ball from the left corner of the box, finding the right post and into the back of the net.
Senior Sydney Schultz notched herself four saves on the evening, giving her seven on the season.
The Saints will host the WildCats of Randolph College this Saturday, September 8 at Long Bridge Park. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
