GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Marymount University women's soccer team slipped on the road to a tough Rowan University squad on Wednesday night, 3-0.
The Profs (4-1) jumped out to an early lead, scoring on a through ball inside the 18 and redirected to the bottom left corner. The Saints tightened up on defense after that, not allowing another one past the mitts of senior goalkeeper Sydney Sherman through the rest of the first half. Rowan fired off another 12 shots before the break, while Sherman made six saves.
In the second half, the Profs pushed their lead to two with a goal in the 48th minute and added the third and final goal 10 minutes later.
The Saints didn't sit back though, still pushing the intensity into the offensive half. In the 62nd minute, junior Sarah Jo Peer ripped a shot on target, but the Prof keeper pulled it in to conceal the shutout.
Sherman finished the night with 11 saves.
The women remain on the road, traveling to Hood College on Saturday, September 15 for another non-conference matchup. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
