SCRANTON, Pa. – The Marymount University women's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Monday afternoon, falling to Marywood University, 4-2, in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference tournament.
The Pacers opened the scoring with a goal just past the five-minute mark off the foot of Becca Dolgas.
Ten minutes before the halftime break, Marywood added is second goal off a corner to take a 2-0 advantage into the half.
The Saints came out of the break aggressive, pushing to get onto the scoreboard, notching two corner kicks in the first five minutes. Reyes just missed cutting the Pacer lead to one, rattling a shot off the crossbar in the 50th minute.
Marywood tallied its third goal in the 58th minute to push the lead to three, but just five minutes later, Reyes found the back of the net to cut the deficit back down to two. Taking a pass from freshman Maia Pappadakis, Reyes ripped a shot from 18 yards just over the keeper's hands.
The Pacers answered at the 65:20 mark to push their lead back to three, 4-1, but Marymount would not go down without a fight.
Reyes and junior Gretel Bonilla each put shots on frame, before freshman Mia Londregan put in the Saints' second score. On a penalty kick, Londregan's initial attempt was saved, but she followed up on the rebound to score and cut the lead to 4-2.
Marywood was able to hold on for the win from there.
