ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's soccer team played its first game at Long Bridge Park of the season on Wednesday night, dropping a non-conference bout with Hood College, 3-0.
The teams played an even first half, with both teams putting shots on frame in the first 10 minutes. Both keepers were up to the task, not allowing anything through, as sophomore Maia Pappadakis made two stops.
Senior Karen Reyes looked to put the Saints on the board, with their best opportunity of the half, in the 36th minute, ripping a shot from the right side of the box. The shot was just wide off the left post, as the teams took a scoreless tie into the half.
At the break, the Blazers held a slight, 6-5, edge in shots, while Pappadakis held strong with five saves.
Hood broke through in the 60th minute on a corner kick to take the 1-0 lead.
Senior Gretel Bonilla put a shot on goal ten minutes later, in an effort to even the score, but Hood's Lydia Erickson was able to make the stop.
The Blazers added their final goals in the 78th and 83rd minutes to put the game away.
The Saints now travel to Randolph College on Saturday, September 7 for their next game, with the opening kick set for 1 p.m.
