Reyes scores twice, but Mustangs edge Saints, 3-2

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's soccer team hosted Stevenson University Saturday afternoon, falling in a closely-contested matchup, 3-2.  

To start the day's scoring, senior Karen Reyes lifted a shot from outside the box to find the back of the net, giving Marymount a 1-0 lead just 12 minutes into the game.

As the half continued, each side found its share of possession and shots. In the 34th minute, one of the Mustang's shots equalized the game, 1-1. 

With 11 seconds left in the first half, Stevenson put another goal in the net, taking a 2-1 advantage into the break.

Out of the half-time break, freshman Yesenia Bustillo-Reyes played a ball to Reyes at the top of the box. Dribbling past her defender, Reyes got a shot off that found the bottom left corner and tied the game 2-2.

In the 63rd minute, the Mustang's had an opportunity to take the lead, but freshman goaltender Maia Pappadakis was up for the challenge.

However, Stevenson was able to find the back of the net for a third time in the 69th minute to take the lead for good.

Pappadakis finished the game with three saves, from six shots in goal.

The women's soccer team will hit the road Wednesday, October 2 to face of against Gallaudet University; kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
