ASHLAND, Va. – The Marymount University women's swimming team closed out its competition for the 2018 calendar year on Saturday in day two of the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Randolph-Macon College, finishing sixth with 551 points.
Junior Hayley Elizondo paced the Saints on the day, placing first in three events and coming within seconds of the program records in each race, as she holds the record already for each event.
She began the day with the gold in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing in 4:39.00, less than two seconds away from her own program best.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Elizondo posted a time of 1:06.87, which was just .08 seconds off of her program-record time.
Elizondo ended her impressive day with first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:26.50. The time was just over one second off of the Marymount record.
Senior Taylor Plumley registered two top-five showings for the Saints, taking fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 1:58.78. She followed that with fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle in 18:26.65.
Collecting two top-10 finishes, senior Claire Cassidy also marked her best time of the year in the 100-yard backstroke, taking ninth in 1:03.18. She also placed ninth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.22).
Elizondo, Plumley, and Cassidy teamed with junior Jessie Bricker to bring home two more top-10 finishes.
They began the day in the 200-yard medley relay, placing eighth in 1:56.55, before wrapping up the meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:48.35, good for seventh. Both times are season bests for the Saints.
Marymount will return to action following the New Year, hosting Salisbury University on Saturday, January 19 at the Lee Center Pool; the meet is set for 2 p.m.
