ARLINGTON, Va. – Sophomore setter Maggie Viniard, of the Marymount University women's volleyball team, was honored as the program's first Atlantic East Conference women's volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Viniard helped the Saints complete a 5-0 week, including a 4-0 weekend in the Marymount Invitational, during which she was named the MVP of the tournament. Marymount only dropped one set during the week.
For the week, she played in all 16 sets, while totaling 179 assists for an average of 11.19 assists per set. Viniard posted 53 assists in the Saints victory over Washington (Md.) College to open the weekend tournament, which is good for the second-highest total for her career.
To earn the MVP of the tournament, Viniard tallied more than 30 assists in each match of the weekend, while notching double-doubles with digs and assists in each of the final three matches of the week.
Her setting helped Marymount post a hitting percentage of .242 for the week, while she aided three different Saints in putting down more than 50 kills over the five matches.
Viniard currently leads the conference with 9.12 assists per set.
Viniard and the Saints return to action on Wednesday, September 12 against York College of Pennsylvania at the Converse Family Fieldhouse; the match is set for 7 p.m.
