Women's Volleyball Tops Former CAC Foe Seahawks

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Marymount University women's volleyball team earned its 18th victory of the season on Wednesday night, topping former Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's College of Maryland, 3-1 (25-9, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24).

A blistering first set for the Saints (18-3) set the pace for the night, rolling past the Seahawks, 25-9, behind a .346 hitting percentage. However, St. Mary's (12-12) battled back to draw the match even at a set apiece with a 25-23 win in the second game. The final two sets were close, but Marymount had the upper hand in each to seal up the 3-1 victory.

Marymount had three Saints hit double figures in kills led by senior Caroline Hanson with 15 kills to go along with 19 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Her 19 digs were just one shy of tying her career record. Sophomores Mykael Johnson and Myah Cordrey followed suit with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.

Junior Theresa Buscemi broke the 20-dig barrier for the fourth time this season with 25 on Wednesday night, while senior Celine Nguyen laid out for 10 herself.

Sophomore Maggie Viniard sent out a match-high 47 assists to go along with seven digs.

The Saints remain on the road and get back into Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday, October 13 when they travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania for a match against Marywood University. Start time is set for 3 p.m.
