GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Marymount University women's volleyball team collected its second three-set sweep of the season on Wednesday night, traveling to Gettysburg College for a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-14) victory over the Bullets.
Johnson got the match underway with a kill before the Bullets built up a small lead that was ended quickly with another kill by Johnson. It was followed by a 6-1 run for Marymount that put it ahead in set one that didn't sway back the other way, closing it out, 25-22.
The second game played much differently, as the set had six lead changes. Late in the set, the Saints saw themselves trailing, 22-20, but a kill by Cordrey and a Bullet attack error drew it even and spurred a Gettysburg timeout. Out of the break, junior Jasmine Roy gave the Saints back the advantage with a service ace, but an attack error by MU left the game even at 23-23.
Remaining composed, the Saints hit back-to-back kills by freshman Elissa Munsterman and Johnson to go up 2-0 in the match.
Taking heavy momentum into the third, MU built up a quick 9-2 lead that bolstered the Saints to a 25-14 victory in the set to seal up the match.
The Saints will head home for their first home match of the season this weekend, hosting a two-day invitational in the Converse Family Fieldhouse. They'll open it on Friday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m., against Franklin & Marshall College.
