LANCASTER, Pa. – For the second time this year, the Marymount University women's volleyball team swept the Atlantic East Conference weekly awards, as junior Mykael Johnson was named Player of the Week and classmate Maggie Viniard was named Specialty Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The Saints finished the week with a 5-0 record, including three-set sweeps of Atlantic East-foes, Immaculata University and Gwynedd Mercy University.
Johnson put down 12 kills against the Mighty Macs and 11 against the Griffins, while finishing the matches with .333 and .417 hitting percentages, respectively. She added 13 digs against Gwynedd Mercy for the double-double.
She had a week-high 19 kills against Virginia Wesleyan University in the Marymount Invitational tournament.
Johnson had double-digit kills in all five matches for the week, while adding six service aces and nine total blocks.
Viniard registered three double-doubles on the week, while tallying double-digit assists in all five matches. She had at least 32 assists in four matches.
She had 48 assists and 14 digs against Virginia Wesleyan, while adding 32 assists and 14 digs against DeSales University in the Marymount Invitational. Viniard also had a double-double against the Mighty Macs with 18 assists and 11 digs.
She finished the week with 11 kills and 10 service aces, as well.
The awards mark the third Player of the Week selection for Johnson this season, while it is Viniard's first Specialty Player of the Week award.
The Saints will be back in action on Friday, October 11 at Swarthmore College, set for 7 p.m.
