TOURNAMENT BOUND: Women's Volleyball Secures Pool B Bid, Makes Second-Straight Appearance In NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA announced the Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament field on Monday afternoon, as the Marymount University women's volleyball team earned the Pool B bid for the second-straight year and is set to travel to Christopher Newport University for a first-round contest against Randolph-Macon College on Friday, November 15.

The Saints sport a 24-10 record so far this season, including their second-straight season going perfect at home with a 13-0 tally. Riding a 10-match win streak, MU most recently topped Neumann University in the Atlantic East Conference Championship to be crowned back-to-back champions for the league, for the program's second conference title.

The successful season has a lot of contributors on the team, led by juniors Mykael Johnson and Maggie Viniard who are ranked nationally in several categories. Johnson, an outside hitter, currently ranks 11th in the nation in total kills (461), while coming in at 12th in points per set (4.8) and 15th in kills per set (4.15). Viniard, the primary setter for the Saints, sits 18th in the county in total assists (1,120) and 25th in assists per set (10.00).

Marymount earned its first bid to the NCAA tournament last season, traveling to Juniata College for a first-round matchup against former Capital Athletic Conference-foe University of Mary Washington.

Randolph-Macon earned an at-large bid to the tournament, with a 25-8 record, after falling to Virginia Wesleyan University in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship match, 3-1.

The Saints and the Yellow Jackets met up earlier this season in the Randolph-Macon Invitational, as the Yellow Jackets came out with a 3-1 victory.

Marymount and Randolph-Macon have played three times in the past three seasons, with the Yellow Jackets holding a 2-1 record. Last year, the Saints took a 3-0 victory over Randolph-Macon on September 8, 2018. Caroline Hanson and Johnson led the team with 12 kills, each, as Viniard added a double-double with 34 assists and 14 digs.
