LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches' Association released the 2019 women's volleyball NCAA Division III Regional awards on Thursday, and Marymount University women's volleyball juniors Mykael Johnson and Maggie Viniard earned spots on the All-East Region teams.
Johnson was named to the All-East Region first team, after being named the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Year and earning a spot on the all-conference first team. She has led the Saints' offense this season, currently leading the team and the conference with 461 kills, which is also 15th in the country.
On the national stage, she also ranks 16th with 4.77 points per set and 20th with 4.15 kills per set.
Johnson's 529 points is good for first in the conference, while she is currently second on the team with 47 service aces, third with 298 digs, and fourth with 34 blocks. Her aces' total ranks sixth in the conference, while her digs are 13th in the conference.
Viniard was awarded All-East Region honorable mention, following an All-Atlantic East first-team selection and earning the league's Specialty Player of the Year award.
She also holds position in the national rankings, sitting 23rd with 1,120 assists and 26th with 10.00 assists per set. Both numbers lead Marymount and the Atlantic East. She also leads the team with 48 service aces, which is fifth in the conference, and is fourth on the team with 282 digs, which is 16th in the Atlantic East.
Johnson, Viniard, and the Saints will return to the court in the NCAA Division III tournament in a first-round contest against Randolph-Macon College at regional-host Christopher Newport University on Friday, November 15; the Saints' match is set for 5:30 p.m.
