GETTYSBURG, Pa. - All eight runners competing for the Marymount women's cross country team on Saturday at the Gettysburg Invitational posted their best time of the season as the Saints finished 20th out of 31 teams which included some of the best in the region as well as Division I and Division II.
Saturday's competition included Division I St. Bonaventure, West Chester, Lock Haven and Millersville from Division II as well as regionally-ranked competition from Division III in TCNJ (#3 Atlantic), Washington and Lee (#5 South), Bridgewater (#8 South) and Gettysburg (#10 South).
Junior Denise Gallant led Marymount across the line for the fifth time in as many races this season, finishing 65th with a time of 25:02.9. She was followed closely by senior Brooke Saunders who placed 83rd in a time of 25:21.2.
Sophomore Sophia Murray was the third to cross the line for the Saints, placing 132nd with a time of 26:40.0. Sophomroe Kaitlyn Reed and junior Elaina Rahaman were separated by just four seconds, coming in at 27:46.9 and 27:51.1, respectively.
Competing in her second 6k race of the season, senior Simone Walker finished almost two minutes faster than her time at the Bobcat Invitational as she crossed the line in 30:37.1, while freshman Grace Smith shaved two-and-a-half minutes off her time at Frostburg, finishing in 32:48.3. Freshman Samantha Gimon rounded out the group for the day, clocking a time of 33.58.5, a season best for the rookie by over three minutes.
Marymount will now have two weeks to prepare for the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 28 in Newport News, Virginia.
