Women's Cross Country Opens 2018 Slate With Fourth-Place Finish At UMW XC Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Marymount University women's cross country team took the gravel for the first time in the 2018 season on Friday evening, taking fourth place at the UMW Cross Country Opener, hosted by the University of Mary Washington. 

The Saints collected 123 points as a team, with the five scorers all finishing in the top 30 runners of the 4K.

Leading the way was freshman Carly Merrill, crossing her first collegiate finish line in a time of 17:43.3 for 32nd place. Just three spots behind her was junior Sophia Murray, coming through at 17:54.2 for 35th. 

Senior Gina Reyes (18:37.2), freshman Clare Polis (18:53.6) and junior Kaitlyn Reed (18:58.2) crossed in order for 38th, 39th, and 40th. Senior Elaina Rahaman took 43rd with a time of 19:22.8, and three spots behind her was freshman Luwam Ermias with a time of 19:58.3.

Rounding out the squad was sophomore Samantha Gimon (22:12.1), sophomore Grace Smith (22:51.5) and sophomore Madison Gerisch (23:44.8). 

The Saints get right back into it next Saturday, September 8, traveling to Stevenson University for the Shannon Henretty Invitational.
