FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Marymount University women's cross country team collected 107 points to take fifth place in the season opener Saturday evening at the University of Mary Washington for the UMW Opener.
Sophomore Luwam Ermias shaved off almost two and a half minute to her time at the 4K course last year with a time of 17:32.32 for 27th place, while junior Clare Polis came in right behind her in 28th with a time of 17:41.75, over a minute better than her time from last year.
Senior Kaitlyn Reed clocked a time of 18:00.61 for 34th place, and sophomore Carly Merrill crossed the finish line at 19:57.72 for 42nd. Junior Samantha Gimon rounded out the scoring in 46th with a time of 22:08.10, and junior Grace Smith closed out the group with a time of 24:12.65 for 47th.
The women return to the course next Saturday, September 7 for the Shannon Henretty Invitational at Stevenson University in Maryland.
